Jobsite security requires that all employees need to be on guard and using best practices to avoid losses due to theft, vandalism, and even liability claims. Being aware of your surroundings and taking a few extra precautions can save money from lost equipment and downtime. Here are some of the key takeaways from a recent webinar presented to ABC of Wisconsin members:
- Jobsite security should be part of your normal project planning process
- Properly secure equipment and tools when no one is around.
- Thefts can occur anywhere and at any time. Pay attention to your tools in transit and when you park your work trucks.
- Contact the local police when necessary to set up spot checks after work hours.
- Check with your insurance agent to see if there are any discounts for use of LOJACK or NER
- Cyber security is an often overlooked area. Verify that order and payments are actually coming from the source you think it is, and not a computer hacker. Many losses can be avoided by a simple phone call verification.
- Many construction contracts require each contractor to insure their own tools and prevent you from recouping your loss from the general contractor or owner.
