The Wharf

The Wharf is a fun indoor/outdoor riverside event venue in Manitowoc. The owner wanted to showcase the natural outdoor beauty of the Manitowoc Harbor and maximize the enjoyment of Wharf customers. A large amount of attention was paid to value analysis and engineering throughout the design and construction process. Because of poor soils near the water, more than 40 helical piers were spun 60 feet below existing grade to support the building and outdoor patio spaces. Additional challenges of this site included designing a structure to support a retractable roof system that can protect the outdoor patio during inclement weather, as well as controlling sun exposure to the patio and the large glass overhead doors. The interior incorporates nautical elements but also reflects a modern aesthetic that is crisp, clean, timeless and would pair well with the wide variety of events held there.
