About the Project

The Orthopaedic Associates of Wausau and Wausau Surgery Center is a strategically-combined 37,595-square-foot clinic and 24,010-square-foot surgery center. The building is collocated, but all components were built as two separate businesses. The building has multiple offices, conference/boardrooms, exam rooms, treatment, pre-op, and operating rooms, nurse pods, x-ray area, anesthesia and recovery rooms, and a world-class physical therapy suite overlooking beautiful scenery. The project took 16 months, primarily pushed by multiple lead time challenges. The most significant being a six-month delay in receiving the main switchgear for each side of the facility. Key unique features which separate this facility are the large windows, tall ceilings that consist of glulam beams, wood decking in the waiting room and gym area, which provide a comforting feeling to patients and staff along with calm earthtone finishes. Another unique feature that stands out is the large clerestory pod in the surgery center, which has high ceilings and windows allowing abundant natural light into the center building recovery rooms.
