About the Project

The lakeside home was built for this couple to enjoy their retirement by showcasing favorite art pieces of their years of travel, while incorporating their local family ties through property sourced timber. The reclaimed red oak is displayed on the ceiling in the kitchen and master bedroom, wall paneling near mini bar, and as a wraparound mantel in the great room. The home is positioned at the bottom of a very steep hill, built during one of Northern Wisconsin’s brutal winters. Over one thousand pounds of ice melt was used on this driveway during winter construction. Once excavation started, a retaining wall was deemed necessary to alleviate hill erosion and soon after the owner’s desire for a better view from the screen porch added in some design and material edits. In addition, after the house was underway, the plan for a partially unfinished second floor was changed to be completed with a home gym, storage space, and an additional bedroom. The project managed to be finished around 12 months with various changes in scope, limited staff, and with coordination of owner’s painting and staining their own finishes to remain closely involved in a project so dear to their hearts.
