LIDL Grocery

This new ground-up LIDL grocery store outside Atlanta by WDS Construction included a retro-prototype 30,000-square-foot block and steel structure situated on five acres. LIDL operates 11,000 stores in the U.S. and used a bid and award process with a three-tier bid phase and two in-person meetings to ensure the cost and scope were accurate. The contractor battled three feet of rainfall on the five-acre site, which resulted in 12 weeks of lost production out of a 36-week schedule. Working seven-day work weeks became the norm and WDS managed to make up several weeks of lost time. The contractor faced a delay in the building permit process and another obstacle to relocate power lines, fiber optic cables and telephone services, which were under and above ground. WDS worked alongside DOT and the county to maneuver around the existing utilities and complete all work while waiting on one power pole to be relocated. Despite a big delay in the building permit process, WDS overcame the crisis situation and avoided impacts to the overall schedule.
