Burke Lutheran Church

NCI-Roberts Construction safely created modern facilities that honor the past in a three-phase renovation and expansion for Burke Lutheran Church in Madison. It consists of a new 5,830-square-foot structure, a relocated and renovated original sanctuary and a 658-square-foot addition. First, a single-story wood frame structure was built. It’s fully accessible, with offices, fellowship space, a nursery, storage and a warming kitchen. Next, the 121-year-old, 185-ton sanctuary was painstakingly relocated 200 yards to a new foundation, which generated many challenges. Then, a 658-square-foot addition, including a new sacristy and organ room, was constructed. Entry link framing seamlessly connected the sanctuary to the larger addition. Stained glass windows salvaged from the 1964 addition were installed in the narthex and the vestibule. A new drive and parking lot with improved lighting brought the project to completion.
