Pewaukee, Jan. 27, 2022 — ABC of Wisconsin members were recognized at the 2021 Projects of Distinction Awards Banquet in Pewaukee.
There were 55 distinct projects recognized for safety, craftsmanship, execution and coordination; scheduling; difficult and unusual challenges; owner satisfaction; and overall distinctiveness. The distinct projects were evaluated by 22 judges who put their architectural, engineering, and construction knowledge to work with a tough set of criteria this past fall.
“The Projects of Distinction provides a great opportunity for merit construction firms to demonstrate breadth of skills and craftsmanship,” not to mention overall commitment to building safely and endorsements by their clients,” said John Mielke, president of Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin. “The level of professional performance and ability to overcome challenges are amazing.”
In addition, one project was ranked highest by the judges and was named the Project of the Year by ABC of Wisconsin. The Project of the Year honors went to Corporate Contractors, Inc. (CCI) for the ABC Supply Stadium in Beloit. Situated on a tight footprint along the Rock River, the ABC Supply Stadium was constructed in 13 months by Corporate Contractors, Inc. (CCI). The three-level, 67,000-square-foot, classic brick structure is home to the Beloit Flying Carp baseball club and is the only stadium in the nation meeting all current Major League Baseball facility requirements. It features a turf field, 360-degree concourse, grandstands, offices, player facilities, batting tunnels, entertainment zones, maintenance building and parking areas. In addition to the pandemic and the resulting material delay challenges, CCI dealt with worksite challenges, including significant contaminated soil remediation and dewatering while installing underground utilities within feet of the river. More than 1,300 geopiers were installed to improve structural integrity of the ground beneath construction. CCI implemented value-engineering strategies for alternative lighting, HVAC, environmental, plumbing, concrete, fencing and finishes. The project received the highest average score by judges.
Meanwhile, Friede & Associates was awarded with the Built On Merit Award for using more members on a project than any other contractor submitting projects. Friede & Associated employed 25 contractor and supplier members on the Genisa Wine Bar and Event Space in Janesville. This is the tenth straight year Friede & Associates has received the award.
